OBA Celebrates Milestone 100th Member

Oundle Business Association recently marked a significant milestone in its history – welcoming its 100th member! This achievement was celebrated in true OBA style, with a special evening that brought together members and prominent local organisations to toast the association’s growth and its continued commitment to the town of Oundle. With OBA’s Chairman Paul Eveleigh at the helm, guests were welcomed with the highlight of the evening being the cutting of a beautifully crafted cake, prepared by one of the newest members, The Lemon Tree.

Founded in 1958, the Association has a rich history of supporting local businesses and community initiatives. While it began as a group primarily composed of local shop owners and traders, the Association has evolved to include a diverse range of small businesses. The name changed in 2018 from “Oundle & District Association of Trade and Commerce” to Oundle Business Association to reflect this broader membership base and align towards a shift to small start-ups and service based businesses.

Membership in OBA has seen a remarkable surge in recent times, a testament to its growing influence and appeal. The monthly social networking evenings have become lively gatherings where business owners and local entrepreneurs discuss everything from industry trends to local issues, all in a relaxed atmosphere over a glass of wine. These events are not just about business, they are about building relationships and creating a supportive network that benefits the entire town.

Far more than just a business network, OBA serves as a focus for local businesses, fostering connections and collaborations that enhance both commerce and community spirit. Though it steers clear of political lobbying, the Association does play a role in giving local businesses a unified voice in dealings with government and other statutory bodies. New members are always welcome. Whether you’re a seasoned business owner or just starting out, OBA offers a wealth of opportunities to connect, learn, and grow.

Over the years, OBA has been the driving force behind numerous community projects. Traditionally the organisation was responsible for Oundle’s Christmas Lights but this has now passed to the Town Council. The Association also played a key role in the annual Oundle Carnivals held from 2009 and more recently introduced the highly successful Vintage Festivals in 2019 and 2024, which will now be a bi-annual event with the next one set for 16th May 2026. From publishing free Town Visitor Maps to partnering with the Town Council to install bike racks and create the Oundle Walking Tour App, OBA has consistently demonstrated that what is good for the community is good for business. Their continuing collaborative efforts with the Town Council, such as the production of the ‘Love Oundle’ video, highlight their commitment to promoting Oundle as a premier destination for visitors and a thriving hub for business.

OBA’s vision is clear: to support the commercial wellbeing of Oundle and its surrounding villages while caring for the community’s interests. By encouraging trade between member businesses, working closely with the Town Council on local initiatives, and attracting interest and investment, the Association aims to play an important role in ensuring that Oundle continues to be a vibrant place to live, visit, and do business.
